AlMg3 (EN AW-5754 H111 1SF)

Metals

EN AW-5754 H111, also known as AlMg3, is a strong and corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy that is highly workable. Its high magnesium content (~3%) makes it stronger than pure aluminum while maintaining good formability. The 1SF variant is equipped with protective film on both sides, making it ideal for visible parts or panels where both surfaces must remain undamaged.
Known alternative designations include 3.3535, A95754, and AG3M. This grade is widely used in transportation, mechanical engineering, and the maritime sector.

Properties of AlMg3 (EN AW-5754 H111 1SF)

  • Very good corrosion resistance, even in marine environments
  • Good weldability with MIG and TIG
  • High formability, suitable for bending and folding
  • Mechanically strengthened by cold working (H111)
  • Lightweight aluminum (density approx. 2.66–2.70 g/cm³)
  • Good for anodizing for decorative or technical finishes
  • Double-sided protective film (1SF) protects both sides during processing
  • Suitable for food contact and aesthetic applications

Thanks to the protective film on both sides, this variant is ideal for applications where both surfaces are visible or sensitive to scratches.

Frequently Asked Questions about ALMG3 EN AW-5754 H111

What does “1SF” mean on aluminium sheets?

“1SF” stands for “Single Foil on both sides,” meaning protective film on both faces to prevent scratches and damage.

When should I choose 1SF instead of 1ZF?

Choose 1SF when both sides of the sheet will be visible or need protection throughout processing.

Is this sheet suitable for outdoor use?

Yes, EN AW-5754 is highly resistant to weathering and seawater, ideal for façades and exterior applications.

Can I anodize this sheet?

Absolutely, this alloy anodizes well. The protective foil stays in place until final finishing to keep the surface pristine.

How weldable is this alloy?

EN AW-5754 H111 welds excellently with standard methods (MIG, TIG) without cracking risk.

What is the advantage of the H111 temper?

H111 imparts a slight cold-work strengthening, boosting mechanical strength without sacrificing formability.

Is the material food-safe?

Yes, EN AW-5754 is approved for food-contact applications and is widely used in the food industry.

Can I machine the sheet with the film still on?

Yes, the protective film prevents scratches during transport and machining. Remove it only at the last step for a perfect finish.
